Provincial Agriculture Minister Pat Bell says the Province will be on board for the Prince George Airport Expansion project. "For sure no one is saying in the provincial government that we are not going to fund the airport runway expansion, or just the first phase.  We have been working with Highways Minister Kevin Falcon to make sure that the appropriate action is taking place to have this project happen."  Bell continued, "There is no political push to say this project shouldn’t go ahead."

Bell says “No one is saying that we won’t fund the project”.
The Premier  wouldn't make the financial committment last week when  he was in Prince George for the Natural Resource Forum, but the Province has already contributed money for the planning of the runway, and the Premier  has  said, on more than one occaision, that he is behind the project.
But there were reports circulating in the area Monday suggesting that the provincial government may not be prepared to contribute $11 million dollars to match the amounts already kicked in by The Northern Trust (a loan) and the eleven million dollar grant from the Federal Government.
The comments prompted Jim Blake, Chairman of the Airport Authority Board to say the federal and Trust money is predicated on the entire project going ahead not just the first phase.
Bell says he is not worried "I’m optimistic we will have the resources for this project."

HEY PAT IF ALL THE LITES ARE GREEN THEN WHY IS THERE NO TRAFFIC MOVING? WE IN THE NORTH DON'T TRUST GOVERNMENT PROMICES.WHERE'S THE CASH PAT? WHERE" THE BRIDGE PAT? WHERE'S THE FOUR LANE PAT?WHERE'S THE CONTAINER FACILITY PAT? WHERE,WHERE,WHERE. MONEY TALKS B.S. WALKS.
P.S. HAVE WE FOUND ANY BEAVER AND MOOSE BONES OVER AT THE MILLION DOLLAR BRIDGE DIGS YET?
Right on!
>"But there were reports circulating in the area Monday suggesting that the provincial government may not be prepared to contribute $11 million dollars..."<

Precisely.

Actually,(on TV) during an interview Mr. Rustad had a very different explanation of what is going to happen next with the funding.

I like Mr. Bell's version much better, so I will put the Rustad blurb in file #13.
Seems to me the Premier was asking for a **Detailed** business plan for the project, to show that it is in fact a viable operation.

If your heavy into **Crystal Ball Gazing** and Star Gazing then its not likely that a **Detailed** business plan will be forthcoming.

Not sure what bridge people are talking about. If it is the Cameron St. bridge then that is the Citys resonsibility. If it is the Simon Fraser Bridge, over the Fraser River, they are presently in the process of of **twinning it**

Other Bridges.
**John Hart Bridge over Nechako **Twinned*
**Foothills Bridge* over Nechako
**Yellowhead Bridge over the Fraser

How many bridges does this City need??

There was quite a bit of work South of Prince George on Highway 97 last year, and no doubt there will be more this year.

Since when does a Container Facility that would be owned and operated by Private business become a Provincial responsibility. CN is a Private Company, so they, or some other Private Business will decide if and when and where a Container yard, or Container loading facility will be built. Private business will decide whether or not they will use these facilities. It has little if anything to do with the Provincial Government.
Gee, Pal, you do have a marvellous perception of the obvious!
I almost thought Bell was gone. No more wild predictions forthcoming, which were extremely laughable. If he receives a majority of votes next election, we will really prove we are bush bunnies close to being brain dead.
I believe the only thing Bell worries about is whether he can get the press to publish his remarks-just so the public knows he is still around.
I had almost forgotten he was, or is, or won't be next election?
Of course the province will kick in. Sheer stupidity if they didn't-even if it becomes a ripping failure!
11 million for the north-just a vote getter-hardly worth mentioning.
HEY PAL..RE CONTAINER FACILITY.. ITS GOING IN THE BCR IND. PARK. THE BCR IND. PARK IS OWNED BY BCR PRORERTIES WHICH IS OWNED BY THE GOVERNMENT.THEREFORE IT HAS PROVINCIAL INVOLVEMENT.
Looks to me like people are mixing bridges into the airport discussion. And I get it in the neck for digressing. :-)

The topic is airport.

I think that is the project he wants to see a viable business plan on, not the bridge. They ain't fundin' no bridge other than the one fir which they have created their own Caribbo Connector "business plan" that I have not been shown yet.

If someone has a copy, can you please send it my way.

;-)
Giterdun, that will be a transfer facility not a container port.

CN is none commital on the container port and to this day refusses to renew leases for those currently using CN property until such time as they have made a decision on a container port in PG. I expect the lease holders effected will be the first to hear any news....
The facility that is going to go into the BC Rail Industrial Park will be a Container re-load centre. The people putting in the Facility will lease the Land, and Maybe the building from BC Rail Properties, however it will be a totally private enterprise.

There may be some sort of a Container yard in Prince George and if there is I suspect it will be on first Avenue, and it also would have some sort of re-load facility run by CN Rail or a Contractor hired by them. Again this will be a totally Private Venture.

Campbell when he was here last week was asked about the money for the Airport Expansion and he stated at that time that he was waiting to see a **Detailed business plan** that would show that this expansion plan had merit. I suspect in the end they will give the money even if they dont get the plan, mainly because it would probably be politically wise to do do. Common sense may not enter in the picture.

Bell is not the quickest gun in the saloon, however when you start to think of the alternatives, then you start to get a little ichy.

Remember Lois Boone. Remember she was the Minister of Highways for a few years. Look around you and see what a great job she did with the Highways, bridges, etc; in this area. The only Major highway project they did was the twinning of the John Hart bridge, which was supposed to cost $27 Million and ended up costing $40 Million or more. This bridge was twinned to try and get Paul Ramsey re-elected.

On the other hand you can look at the Island Highway they built at a cost of Millions (High paid union labour) Travelled this highway on a number of occasions and you dont really have to worry about traffic. Fact is sometimes you get pretty lonely before you see another car. Lois Boone was highways Minister in name only. Glen Clark behind the scenes was calling the shots, and Prince George was not very high on his radar screen.

If there was a way to elect someone other that Pat Bell, or the next NDP Clone, then that would be the way I would go, however if you dont Vote for Bell then you may as well vote NDP because they will win by default. Such is politics.
I remember Lois Boone (when she was the highways minister) for only two things: She raised the speed limits by 10km/h from 90km/h and she stated during an interview on Channel #10 that people can complain all they want, but that potholed highways are a very low priority as far as the NDP was concerned and that Education and Healthcare were the real priorities. Of course, she failed to mention that both of these endeavours were also completely "in the tank."
