The driver of a logging truck is in hospital  with serious  injuries following a crash on Highway 16 west at the Mud River Hill just west of Prince George.

Prince George RCMP say  just before 7:00 this morning, the logging truck left the highway and sheared off a hydro pole.

The logging truck is in the ditch, and while  traffic  could  get around that site, the live hydro wires are across the road.  "We will not allow traffic to go through the area until such time as B.C. Hydro crews have been  able to deliver a new hydro pole and get the live wires  cleared off" says Constable Gary Godwin.

He says when hydro arrives, traffic will be allowed through, but only on a single lane alternating basis.   In the meantime, he suggests people use the McBride Timber road as a by-pass.  To access that road from  the  Prince George side of the accident, travellers would have to head on to Mud River Road to the McBride Timber Road.

If you don't hit the top of that hill at 80km/h you will definately have to rely on your brakes way to much, not only to maintain your speed, but to scrub off the excess you hit the top of the hill with. With a full load you can easily hit the top of the hill at 80km/h, scrub the brakes a lot to the bottom and still be doing 110km/h when you cross that bridge. That bridge is tight at 100km/h factoring in the corner right after the bridge and on-comming traffic.

It is probably thee spot for responsible driving by commercial vehicles on that highway, and as far as I know it has never had much problems because most drivers factor that hill in way in advance.

I suspect being from the Fort this driver was not aware, or simply irresponsible with his speed on the hill. Had he been behind a chip truck he would have had no choice but to be responsible, because chip trucks are monitored by onboard computers.
