A stretch of highway 16 west has been reopened to single alternating traffic as hydro and telus crews repair lines  downed  in a single vehicle crash this morning.

A 29 year old man from the Ft, St James area  was taken to hospital with serious injuries when the logging truck he was driving left the highway at the Mud river hill and sheared off a power pole.   He  is said to be stable.

The crash knocked out power and phone service to  nearly a thousand customers from  Hartman Road and East Beaverly Road,  west to the Isle Pierre Road. Service is expected to be restored by 1:00 this afternoon.

Traffic had been detoured  along the Mud River Road to the McBride Timber Road.

I hope he is okay. What a terrible way to start a day.
speed was a factor...damm log truck drivers...always driving like mad men.
spoke to a greyhound bus driver who was behind the log truck driver at the time of the accident. Said the dude didn't even apply his jake brake at the top of the hill, but instead he accelerated and went straight off the road on the curve. There was no way he could have made it.
Stoooooooopid!
