If the cops can do it, why can't I ?

If the homeowner injures the intruder, he/she is liable for charges of assault.
Is that true by the way? I have heard of people being charged by the police when they have wounded a burglar, not sure if there has been any convictions though.

Winkledawg, you'd have to get Councilor Murray to close the drug shelters, because in Florida the residents are safe enough, but the tourists are the favourite meal of the day. So up here the thugs would starve waiting for the couple of tourists a year we get, and Murray's shelters would be the favourite hibernation spot!

It all comes down to the character of those we place in charge: mayors, councelmen/women, judges, politicians, the leaders of our cities, towns and countries, the lawmakers and law keepers.
If they are not people with good morals, strong character, having a sense of right from wrong, being obligated to right and having a fear of wrong, then they are people who will continue to draw from the breath of our society and suffocate us in the stink hole we are all sinking in now. A world where we are not safe in our own homes, our children are not safe at school or in a playground, our property is open game for any would be thief or vandal who has a hankering to "help himself".

We helplessly cannot trust our neighbor, duplicity being only one result of forced political correctness. Some fools in charge took the ever so basic and symplistic sanction of home and family and turned it into the joke it has become today. We have gone so very far overboard in protecting the "rights" of those we claim need protecting and yet daily our children lose their innocence to the depraved and willful acts of adults who are "KNOWN" offenders.

Gee, gimme a break - an intruder who falls down the stairs is reasonable, since he likely didn't know the stairs were there!!! But it's the judges and lawyers who let him go who should have to answer for it.
