Police are asking motorists to stay off highway 97 south to Quesnel , after numerous accidents have been reported on the highway this morning.

Gary Goodwin of the RCMP in the city says, "we haven't had any serious injuries yet, but we have had a lot of people leave the road and end up in the ditch ".

When the road gets better we will let you know , but as of 9.30a.m. we are asking you to avoid it.

According to RoadSafe, TruckSafe, RoadHealth, SnowSafe, etc. there are too many people driving too fast for the road conditions, so the police are asking EVERYBODY not to drive.

That doesn't make any sense...according to RoadSafe, etc., you can drive the road safely no matter what the road conditions, as long as you drive according to the road conditions. So, why would the police ask you to not drive the road at all ?

I'm perplexed.....
PoliceSafe.
A divided, double lane highway would go a long way to increasing safety, wouldn't it?

In other news, the Feds and Gov of BC have determined that a beautiful public tree that needs to be replaced is worth about $1,000 (stanley park). So that means the PG Golf & Curling club can expect a $9,000,000 cheque, and the city will get millions and millions for Pine Valley, Rainbow park, Moores Meadow, Freeman Park,...

I'm sure we'll get all that money as soon as the government doubles that highway so they can safely drive it up to us...
The news report said people were leaving the highway, so how would having a separate highway (one for men and one for women) help?
Strange! I drove up from Quesnel 07:30 - 09:45 and I didn't have any problems. No cars in the ditch during that time. There are some people who should stay home instead of driving with a death grip on the wheel and there lips bleeding from biting them with fear, holding up traffic driving 50km p/h on the highway. Those are the drivers who cause accidents.
Here here acrider54 I agree these folks cause most of the trouble on our hyways. What I can't believe is how they figure 50k is a safe speed till they get to a passing lane then it seems 120k is safe?
I saw someone in the ditch on highway 97 yesterday. It was on the right hand side on the way to the airport just as you start up the hill. A tow truck was on the scene ready to earn some money.

It would be helpful to know which part of the highway to Quesnel is dangerous enough to ask people not to drive it.
Anybody remember Ralph Nader?
'Unsafe at any speed'

Hey, what ever happened to the I.C.B.C.?
(you know, the taxpayer owned insurance co.)It seems like it has evolved to the point where they are setting policy, is that correct? Is auto insurance becoming a secondary business for Ultrasafe I mean icbc?
