Lots of Huffing over Puffing

When will the people who are carrying the torch for the anti smokers going to give it a break? It is getting annoying already. If you don’t like the bars having smoking rooms, then for God’s sake don’t go into them. 

As for trying to pitch the second hand smoke bit, it has been beaten to death, give it a break. We know smoking is harmful to your health, tell that to the Ffederal, and Provincial governments who are the biggest winners from the sales of cigarettes.  It’s a bit like gambling, to put a buck into the machine and get 65 cents back, only in the case of the weed you get one hell of a lot less. 

So if these folks want to go on a crusade, try fixing up the air that we all breathe.  We know that industry in this region is spewing into the air crap that is harmful to us, how about this for a hobby horse?  Instead of trying to promote another study on the quality of the air that we have in this city, do something about it. Of course it’s a lot tougher to go after big industry than it is to take on some poor sap that got hooked on the weed and the Federal and Provincial governments are smiling as they pour the money into the bank. 

The people who run the bars, went to a lot of expense in trying to make everyone happy on the issue.  They installed special smoking rooms, with special ventilation.  May I say again, for those who don’t like the idea, check with WCB they aren’t complaining.  City Council voted 6 to 2 to allow the smoking rooms, so they're not complaining, so why do we need a referendum on the issue for the fall election? 

This smoking issue is about the same as City hall going after those people who have wood burning appliances. Close down Grammy and you’ll eliminate the air problem in PG, I guess not, but they thought it was worth a try. 

There are much more pressing issues in PG than smoking in bars, so let’s get on with the program folks.
