Members of the the Clean Air Coalition will be appearing before Prince George City Council this evening.  They are hoping to convince Council to  make the necessary moves to  put a smoking referendum on the ballot for this fall's municipal election.

Robert D'Auray, Chairperson of the Prince George Clean Air Coalition, will be presenting a letter  which calls for a referendum "that would ask the Citizens of Prince George their opinion on making all indoor public places 100% smoke free."

Also appearing are members of the Prince George Pub Association.  Writing on behalf of the Pub Associatoon  Ted Coole writes "We believe that any special interest group  using our election process to further their own personal agenda, ( if allowed) would set a dangerous precedent."

Can someone tell me which INDOOR PUBLIC SPACES in Prince George are NOT already smoke free, other than the confined spaces set up in pubs?

I amn not familiar with any, but I might be missing some.

It seems to me that they are simply trying to close down the restricted areas in the pubs.
Maybe they are just trying to close down the pubs, and have the people take their booze home to drink it.
Will this "smoking" issue never end???? The pubs did everything to comply, but nothing seems good enough for those puritans who do not light up. They do not seem to be too strung out over the air pollution in the city, and next they will be attributing it to the outdoor smokers to some degree.
And to think they want it taken to a referendum. Somewhere along the line they have to just "leave things alone!!"
Who are all these members of this Clean Air Coalition. Why don't they just go live out in the bush, come into town, shop in smoke free stores, and get back into the bush, and their fresh air??
If they are so worried about smokers-do not go anywhere that allows smoking. Some people just find it hellish hard to "mind their own business." This group sounds like a pack hell bent on creating trouble for pubs.
Oh, by the way, I am a NON smoker, and I do not mind saying, "Leave it alone."
