A major section of downtown Prince George has been re-opened, now that Police are certain there  is no trace of explosives.

The blocks from 5th to 2nd Avenues, between Brunswick and Victoria, were  cordoned off this afternoon when a bomb threat was called in to police.  It was the voice of an adult male.

The male indicated there was a bomb placed in a call centre, and that it would go off at a certain time.  Police ordered the area evacuated, sending hundreds of workers from neighbouring businesses  home for the day.  It also meant  the evacuation of a daycare centre that was within the cordoned off area.

A special bomb sniffing dog was brought in from the lower mainland, and at 9:30 this evening, the all clear was given and the area of downtown was re-opened.

The investigation now  focuses on finding the person who made the call.  Police say they have some very good leads.

The charge is uttering threats, and carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail.

A bomb? I guess that's one way to revitalize the city and remove the undesirable street elements. Just kidding!!!
