An Air Quality Advisory is in effect for Prince George.

The first air quality advisory was called  just beofre 2:00 this afternoon and will  be in effect for 24 hours.  An update is expected tomorrow morning at 11:00

The Ministry of the Environment  says the high levels appear to be predominantly due to combustion sources to the northeast of downtown, with some contribution due to dust. Light winds and clear skies over the area are trapping the pollutants sin the airshed.

Twenty-four hour levels were 49 at Downtown and 35 at the BCR site at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon.

During an air quality advisory, residents are reminded the City's Clean Air Bylaw prohibits the use of wood burning appliances, except for sole wood burning heat users, and that open burning including backyard burning and land clearing burning is banned.  There is also to be no recreational fires or street sweeping.

So we now have an advisory. When will we have a cure and get clean air? Dunno. Let us form a committee and talk about it. That oughto make the public happier than they are now!!
"combustion sources to the northeast of downtown"??? Could this be the politically correct way of saying pulp mills and refinery? Just spit it out and forget the double speak.
Combustion sources? A bunch of trucks travelling the Pulp mill Rd.? Or maybe snowmobilers on Hofferkamp.

I know, I know!! A couple of houses on Pulp Mill Rd have their wood burning fireplaces going. They are probably not approved. The fireplaces .... not the people .... ;-)
It's funny how we can bitch and bitch about the pulp mills....but nothing gets done!
