Mike Vandekamp is the new head coach of the Prince George Cougars.

The 33, year old former Ft. St. John native had been one of the hottest coaches in the BCHL over the past several years.

"I would sincerely like to thank Mr. Brodsky and Mr. Thompson for offering me the opportunity to become the Head Coach of the Prince George Cougars. I look forward to working with the Management, Scouting Staff and the Players towards a common goal of both on ice and off ice success”, states the newly appointed Vandekamp.

He won the interior division in the 2004 -2005 season with a 42-9-9 record for the Vernon Vipers and was Coach of the Year in the BCHL in 2001-2003.

He is a 10 year veteran in the BCHL and has won the interior division 4 of the past 5 seasons.

Vandekamp, his wife Lana and their two children arrive in P-G later this week, with Mike set to  start work immediately.

Ho hum,the good news is that the son in law won't be running the team the bad news is that the cougars seem content on hiring "nobody's".I guess it's understandable though, seeing Wayne Gretzky wasn't available.Oh well hopefully this Vandekamp guy can make me eat my words.
ROCK
I highly doubt there is a list of 'big name' coaches waiting in line to coach this team. Until this franchise fosters a winning atmosphere, we will have to settle for unproven coaches. Good luck Mike, you're going to need it.
