While Smithers was the setting for the recent filming of the movie "Antarctica", that town was not the only one to benefit from the project.
According to the Northern Film Commission (operating under the wing of Initiatives Prine George) a new study indicates the economic benefit to the region was significant.
The study suggests the six weeks of filming generated 11.6 million dollars in direct spending, and an economic spin off of 21.4 million dollars, equal to the creation of 136 full time/ year round jobs.
Some benefits can't be counted by dollars as the study also found the residents of Smithers were left with a great deal of pride, and increased community spirit.
