Northern Firefighters On the Move to Help Out in the Okanagan

Four initial attack crews have been deployed yesterday to help battle the fires in the Southeast Fire Centre, a region that stretches from the Okanagan Highlands/Monashee Mountains in the West , the Alberta border in the east to the Mica dam in the north and the U.S. border in the south.
Two parra-attack crews from Fort St. John were deployed, along with one initial attack crew from Vanderhoof and one from Prince George.
With warm summer temperatures in the southern half of the province, the fire danger rating in the Southeast Fire Centre is high with areas of extreme fire danger.
Additionally, the 20-person Titan unit crew from Vanderhoof has been sent to Oliver to assist in suppression efforts on the fire that is adjacent to camp Mckinney road.
So far this season, there have been 225 fires, 180 sparked by lightning.
In comparison to last season, the fire activity throughout the Prince George Fire Centre has been low; however, when compared to numbers from the last ten years, this fire season is average.
The fire danger rating for the Prince George Fire Centre is low to moderate fire danger with some areas of high fire danger.
