Nominations for the Order of British Columbia, the province's highest recognition of excellence and achievement, are now being accepted.

The Order of B.C. will be presented this year by the Lieutenant-Governor Iona Campagnola  to outstanding British Columbians who have excelled in any field of endeavour - such as community leadership, the arts, labour, business, volunteer service, research and education - benefiting the people of the province or elsewhere.(photo at left courtesy of the B.C. "Our province is blessed with British Columbians...who transcend the ordinary expectations of their day to day lives by making inspired and varied contributions to the cohesiveness of our society and the well-being of our fellow citizens," says Campagnolo.

Recipients are chosen by an independent advisory council headed by British Columbia Chief Justice Lance Finch. The deadline for receiving nominations is 5 p.m., March 10.  Recipient names will be made public in May, with an official dinner and ceremony of recognition a Government House in June.

Since the first awards were handed out in 1990, 245 British Columbians have been honoured.

Nomination forms and information are available by contacting the Honours and Awards Secretariat in Victoria at (250) 387-1616 or on on-line by clicking here.  Forms are also available at government agents' offices.

I nominate the fellow who spends the summer picking up the garbage on foothills between 5th and 15th.........He is a man of character........we only need about 4 million like him in this province.........I do not know his name but have nothing but respect and admiration for him

I'd second that nomination finran-man.

He's one of dying breed, namely people that actually DO something, rather than TALK about doing something.

The whole planet could use a lot more men and women like him.
I nominate Mr. Kinsley to be man of the year for making travel seem attractive by setting a marvelous example for those who can see the world on someone elses dime.
I'll third that one if its the old East Indian guy your talking about. Class act guy IMO. I don't know his name either.
