With the city’s 2007 budget deliberations to begin on Wednesday, the Prince George Athletic Commission appeared before councillors this evening to re-cap the past year and present a "wish-list" item for the coming year.

Athletic Commission Chair George Winter says the group is seeking just over $75-hundred dollars for three commissioners to attend the Canadian Boxing Federation’s and Association of Boxing Commission’s annual general meetings in Miami, Florida.

Winter says the knowledge gained about boxing events and regulations would better assist the commission in attracting and hosting such events in Prince George.

He points out the commission is in discussions with a North Vancouver promoter in hopes of bringing the first-ever Pro-Am Boxing card to Prince George.  Winter says it’s been almost 10-years since there has been any professional boxing in our community.

The commission’s funding request will be considered with all other service enhancement requests at the tail-end of budget discussions.

Those dollars could find a much better use to permanently repair several stubborn potholes on South Kelly road. Year after year after *patching* they predictably reappear within 4 to 5 days, only much bigger and much deeper than before!

They are real suspension busters for those who are unfamiliar with their permanent locations and mistake them for just water filled puddles!

Trucks and transit buses use this street and it deserves to be better maintained than it is now because of the steady pounding it gets.

Can we not send just ONE commissioner if in fact this is such a super important issue and vital for the future of this city?

Why three???

Let's get real and deal with some more down to earth issues first, like dangerous potholes!!!
Why three is certainly the question. There is nothing in the written request which would indicate a rationale for that.

Three councillors were very concerned about the money we are spending in the City when debating whether to fund a possible 2011 summer games here.

There is another good example of a proposal which was insufficiently prepared to determine the value to be received in return for an investment. There was not even an attempt to define the value of things which many feel are intangibles.

To those in marketing, few things are actually intangibles once you set your mind to determining what value things have.
At least if I attend this I don't have to worry about a hockey game breaking out....
