Fireworks Mother Nature's Way

Although the PG X is holding fireworks tonight, mother nature will provide her own light show for the night sky.  

This is the time of year for the Perseid meteor shower. 

The peak occurs at about 10 am local time today, but the  Prince George observatory will be open for their regular Friday night Open House so people are welcome to come out then and watch the Perseids. 

There will be more to see at the Observatory than the Perseids,  as tomorrow ( the 13th) there will be a special all day open house with some video presentations, displays for you to look at , and from 3:00 pm to 4:00pm there will be a telescope workshop where people may bring their own telescopes and the experts at the Observatory will  help you figure out how to set them up and use them.  If the weather permits, there will be a scope set up for people to look at the sun. 

All this will be followed up by an observing session which will inlcude viewing the Perseid meteor shower. 

While the special viewing session won't take place near the peak of the shower, the Perseids are visible for many days on either side of the peak so there should still be quite a few meteors to see.
