The speech from the Throne will open the Spring Session of the B.C. Legislature  today.

Prince George-Omineca MLA John Rustad says the speech should supply some hints of what to expect in the budget that will be delivered by Finance Minister Carole Taylor  one week from today.  "I think you will see there is going to be quite a focus on education" says Rustad.  "There will be, I think, some good news in terms of the overall province and where things are going".

He isn’t  prepared to spill all the beans though "I don’t want to give away too much on where its going but I’m quite optimistic.  I think its going to be a good Throne Speech, and I’m looking forward to the budget following up  because I believe the numbers are going to be quite good for us in the Province and for us in the North."

I see no reason why they could not announce a student loan forgiveness % type deal for those that graduate. It would increase enrolements and motivate students to graduate and contribute to the economy. IMO it would be a win-win investment in light of the 300% increase in tuition, 250% increase in gasoline, and a similar increase in housing costs over the last 6 years since the BC liberals came to power.
As a taxpayer I am not for forgiving any loans made to young healthy individuals. The borrower knew what the terms of repayment were when the loan was signed for on the dotted line. Get a job for after hours and earn extra money! The papers are full of job offers. A degree makes for higher earnings during an entire life time, so later take some of the money and repay your loans, without constantly whining. The government ought to put more money into health care and not worry about forgiving loans that were made in good faith!

Housing costs are up because the economy has finally recovered and the costs of labour and materials are up. The increase of the price of gasoline is global - nothing to do with the B.C Liberals.
Must be nice to have all those paid holidays and yet they want more money hmmmm.
