Northern Health has put visiting restrictions and increased infection control measures in place at the Pouce Coupe Care Home, due to a circulating gastrointestinal illness.
The illness, which B.C. Centre for Disease Control testing has confirmed is norovirus, first surfaced Saturday, February 10th. To date, it has affected thirteen residents and ten staff members.
Northern Health is asking the public to avoid visiting the Pouce Coupe Care Home until further notice. Members of residents’ immediate family are aware of the situation.
“This has been a peak year for gastrointestinal illness”, said Dr. Charl Badenhorst, medical health officer, Northeast. “Facility staff members are taking extra precautionary measures to prevent further spread. We are asking visitors to stay away because of the high number of cases of the virus in the general community, and the highly contagious nature of the illness.”
