Canfor has announced that it will take down time at three mills in the province because of slumping markets.
On February 16th,  the Polar Board OSB plant in Ft. Nelson will shut down and re-open on March 5th.
The Mackenzie sawmill will take a week of down time beginning February 26th, while the Plateau Mill at Vanderhoof will move to two shifts from three effective February 19th.
CEO, Jim Shepard, says poor market conditions along with the disruption of service by CN rail have contributed to the shut down.

The company delivers its fourth quarter report Friday morning.

I'd like to extend my gratitude to the BC Liberals for selling our railway to CN thereby creating a monopoly in PG. Good work.
theres a stretch for you. I didnt know there was competition for wood shipping when BCrail was the railway.
So now you know:

When BC Rail was owned by the Provincial Government shippers could ship via.

BC Rail to North Vancouver thence BN Railway, or CP Railway, to US Destinations. Now that the CN owns BC Rail you have one choice only CN Rail. This makes them a monopoly in this area. The common sense thing for the BC Government to do would have been to sell the BC Rail to either the BN Railway or the CP Railway thus providing some competition in the area, and keeping the freight rates low, and service levels up.

This never happened, and I doubt if we will ever know why.
