A milk hauling tractor trailer rolled into the ditch on Highway 16 east early this morning after it failed to make the Bowron River Hill, in what police called, treacherous conditions.
The 47-year-old male driver and his 49-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.
The accident, which occurred at around 3.30 a.m. this morning, closed Highway 16-east, as police trying to reach the scene of the accident found it took more than one-hour to travel just 64-Kilometres.

Here is the way it went: the milk truck rolled into the ditch, spilling its load of milk, another empty logging truck behind was barely able to stop, but did so; however, a second logging truck plowed into the rear of the truck that did stop because of the slippery conditions.

It was at that point that the RCMP decided it was time to close the highway and it was shut down until this morning.

Police say that when they were coming into town from the scene of the accident at 7:40 this morning, there still had been no sanding truck on the highway.

The Guardian angels, who were watching over the road block, said the roads were an absolute sheet of ice and it was difficult for anyone to even stand.

No salt for the roads. CN is on strike.
No use crying over spilt milk.
Same think...just a different day...No salt and sand....there is lots...but it has to be loaded and spread....Guess we need a bunch of deaths to have an inquest. Just like the loggers
The private contractor must have spent it's budget this year so can't afford to do anymore sanding or clearing for the rest of the winter, might as well stay home till spring.
Then again, probably can't afford the fuel or for taht matter get any as CN is on strike that's another reason why service stations are saying gas prices are on their way up. Any excuse.
