For years, the Hart Pioneer Centre has been trying to get some funding to develop affordable housing for seniors - housing that would provide some assistance those who need it.  The project would round out the  Hart Pioneer Centre’s activity centre.

Today, the centre got some dollars that should help better define their project.  The Province is providing a $25 thousand dollar grant through BC Housing to develop a  feasibility study for an affordable housing development for seniors.

The study will look at developing the housing on the site adjacent to the existing Hart Pioneer Centre.

Last year at the Natural Resources forum, Prince George North MLA Pat Bell convinced Rich Coleman, the Minister of B.C. Housing, to have a private meeting with the folks at the Hart Pioneer Centre to hear their ideas on the project. The meeting has paid off.

The time line for the completion of the study has not been set.

Wow! $25,000.00. Isn't that almost an insult? Am I to believe it took years for a decision to be made for the government to part with that paltry sum.
Pat Bell had to convince Rich Coleman to meet with the people at the Hart Pioneer Center??
Disgusting, revolting, and an act of sheer stupidity in my opinion.
They can sure spread the big bucks in other areas, but when it comes to the Seniors they become world class
"CHEAPSKATES."
Just does not seem right to me.
That's petty cash.

BC Housing? Why are they not doing anything to determine the need in this region and other remote regions for that matter? Why is one group looking into that who may be spinning wheels?

SOrry, I know little about how this works. However, if a minister has to cough up money to produce a study like that, it shows me that it is the government's job to do that, otherwise why would the government be rpviding money?

So, how come BC Housing, or whatever arm of the government whose responsiblity it is to ensure we have enough affordable housing for seniors, needed a push from a minister to get something which appears to be much needed?

A nice positive story that they got some money. But the story once more shows us that the normal system does not work if we have to deal with who you know rather than what you know. Hardly an equitable system in any way you look at it.
The south wants our seniors to prop up their economies.

Time will tell if this government will do the right thing and invest in senior housing in Northern BC communities. I won't hold my breath.
That is most certainly one way to look at it .... send them north to extract the resources, then take them back to spend the money ...
That money is just for a study. Compare that sum to studies on other political issues and it is a pittance. I hope we can stay on their asses to keep the wheels turning. The Hart seems to be an afterthought in this town and it would be great to see more facilities up in the area so we don't have to go down into the stinky bowl area. Seems like people try to make a go of something and poof...it dies. I enjoyed a meal at the new restaurant at the Hart Centre and then it was gone. The other one is now a bottle depot. What is going on. And please, I hate shopping at a store where you're penalized if you don't bring your "Save On" Card. But I digress.Anyway good luck with that funding, don't spend it all in one place.
