Premier Gordon Campbell says we need to synchronize the environmental permitting process between the federal and provincial governments, in order to increase efficiencies and decrease wait times for developers.

"We really only need one process," he says, "Because we are serving the same people."

The Premier says he is looking into delays in the process at the Kemess North Mine.

The company recently said it may have to lay off workers because it will not be able to get the necessary permits in time to develop the new mine.

Speaking about the Peace Region of BC, the Premier says that the area has been receiving more money then it did previously.

Hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent on roads in the region,  he says, and the feeling is that the citizens of that part of the province now feel that they are part of BC, something that they did not some years ago.

So it takes money to feel that you are part of the province?

Does anyone have any data on how much money is being spent on regional specific projects and programs on a per capita basis? $100 per person in the Peace? $120 per person in the Central Interior? $150 per person in the GVRD? ... or the reverse?

... $25 per person for the East Kootenays?
CAMPBELL LIKES THE CANCER CLINIC IDEA
CAMPBELL LIKES THE AIRPORT PLAN
CAMPBELL LIKES THE KEMESS PROJECT
CAMPBELL DOESN'T LIKE TO COMMIT MONETARY SUPPORT TO ANYTHING IN THE NORTH.
HEY GORDON, WE ARE THE GUYS AND GIRLS THAT GENERATE MOST OF THE WEALTH FOR THE PROVINCE HOW ABOUT SENDING SOME OF IT BACK NORTH. HOT AIR AIN'T GOIN' TO CUT IT.WE NEED ACTION NOT WORDS.YOUR DINNER WAS A WASTE OF TIME AND THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ATTENDING WERE DISAPOINTED WITH YOUR LACK OF SUPPORT. CAN WE HAVE OUR MONEY BACK?
Actually I think Campbell is more interested in himself, his paycheck and his friends...( if he has any of them!)
Oh come on Gofaster-of course he has friends-even if many are "coat tail friends". He certainly needs those to stay on top. They support him and they are compensated.
The province, on the whole, is doing well.
I do not want to see a lake destroyed by Kemess. This should definitely NOT happen as there can never be a recovery, it will end the lake forever, and the fish, and much of the wild life.
In my opinion, a company should not be permitted to destroy our province in any manner for gain. If they get the permits required for this destruction they should not win another election-not a single Liberal.
The airport plan will proceed, and the Liberals will cough up 11 million.
Eventually there will be a cancer clinic in the north. It just amazes me the talk of one goes On, and 0n, and 0n. It may have been closer to reality if there had even been a remote possibility the required Doctors and nurses, with all the knowledge required, could have been found to staff it. An inoperable cancer clinic makes no sense, and the north does not take any priority at this time. Money must be available for the Olympics, and a great deal of ours is already spoken for.
There may not be any money left over-only a sizeable debt.
Between the city and the provincial government, we are humbled at times as to the treatment we receive.
Even the new gaming centre is going to put pressure on those citizens who believe they are merely gambling for recreation-but becoming poor is a reality for many.
The gov't and the city know full well it is a form of voluntary taxation by allowing established gaming centres.
If you believe for one minute they care about the average citizen, you are in for a reality check if you look at the end result with your eyes wide open.
Nothing really changes-now does it?
Unless it gets worse.
