A Quesnel drug bust has netted a basement full of marijuana plants, along with numerous kids from the local high school in that city.

A 22 year old male and a 19 year old female were arrested and taken into custody. A third suspect is being sought.

Police say the names of the school kids were taken and the parents of these children were called to advise them.

The pair is scheduled to appear in court on May 29th to face charges.

Surrounding many of the Quesnel schools are "Drug Free Zones" in which people caught with drugs face twice the penelty inside the zone than if they were "busted" outside the permimeter. Lets hope this was not near a school, but since it sounds like it was, lets hope they get a harsh sentence!
Just speeding in a construction zone has more appeal and cash incentive than a drug problem at a school. After all, who can you fine at a drug bust? And if you are a driver caught speeding, the cops don't even have to bother with court costs. Loser you. But win win fer the man.
My bet is that NOTHING will be done to make a point with these students.Or with those who planted the crop.Big fat zero. And that is exactly why our kids are not getting the message about drugs in general.Whether we want to admit it or not, drugs are now almost an accepted part of our culture.Sad but true. Our court system and parents as well, have completely dropped the ball on this and it probably too late to fix it now.As us old farts fade away and a younger generation of politcians and lawmakers take over,it will only get worse.
It's up to our appointed judges and lawyers to begin enforcing the law to the extent that the consequences far outweigh the benefits of getting away with a pot crop. As if the kids are worried? They are the ones laughing. Untouchable. Chester
Quite right Chester...and it is out of control because the penalties are far too lax.We are sending the wrong message and it is likely too late to fix it now.Maybe it's true when they say that drug money has become a big part of our economy here in B.C.(and everywhere)Who cares where the cash comes from as long as there is lots to go around!
