The Prince George Black History Society and College of New Caledonia hosted the 9th Annual Celebration of Black History Month concert and dinner this evening.

Approximately 200 people turned out to the Atrium at CNC this evening for the free concert that featured drumming, singing, and dancing.

CNC Interim President John Bowman welcomed the crowd, saying the College is proud to support Black History month and he commended the local society for its contributions to cultural life in Prince George.

Bowman says the partnership between the two groups in hosting this event is one that will continue for years to come.

Mayor Colin Kinsley read the official proclamation declaring February "Black History Month".

He commented on the importance of acknowledging the accomplishments of black people throughout Canada and the world and how celebrations like this enrich the lives of all Prince George residents.

Below, CNC Professor George Kaweesi and Drumming Instructor and entrepreneur Granville Johnson entertained the large crowd on-hand.

CNC student Kingsley Nze, as the master of ceremonies, talked about how the concert was one way of giving back to the community.

He pointed out that traditional cooking and dance classes are held at CNC that are open to the public.
