Air quality issues will be front and centre at this evening’s Prince George Council meeting.

The Chair of the Mayor’s Task Force on Air Quality, Dr. Howard Brunt, will update Council on the membership and the group’s timeline for its first report.

The city’s Manager of the Environment, Mark Fercho, will present a report on the 12 point request passed over to staff in December following the  report on Air Quality issues presented to Council in early December.  That report includes a request to the Province for an update on asphalt regulations.

Northern Health will also make a presentation, asking for the City’s support in establishing tobacco free zones to discourage smoking in such areas.

Also on the agenda:
  • A request to allow signage along Highway 16 as part of the awareness campaign on the Highway of Tears.
  • Appointments to various City committees
  • Request for funding  for the 3rd annual  Bio Energy conference set for 2008.

All this yakkity yak about air quality. Nothing is going to be done and nothing will happen. The only emvironment the mayor is interested in is the political environment.
Make that damn husky refinery clean up their act, and you eliminate the largest pollution source IMO.
