In keeping with the City's desire to maintain 2007 services at last year's levels, Initiatives Prince George came before council this evening to seek a budget increase in-line with the rate of inflation.

Last year, the City Council approved a grant of $1.27-million dollars for IPG during the budget process.  In the end, the City paid out about 10-thousand dollars less than the amount budgeted.

This year, IPG requested and received approval for a base grant of $1.93-million dollars.

Two divisions of IPG - Tourism Prince George and Events PG - are seeking service enhancements above last year's budget of $20-thousand dollars and $60-thousand dollars, respectively.  And, although those requests have been deferred to the final budget meeting for approval, the money is being sought from a provincial tourism program and not from city coffers, so they would have no impact on the final tax levy, if approved.

An increase from $1.27 million to $1.93 million translates into a 52% increase. How can this be a marginal increase or an increase "in-line with the rate of inflation." ???
It would appear that we have some **bad** numbers here. Either that or their budget has been increased by $660,000.00, which seems unlikely.
