The B.C. Coroner's Service has announced an inquest into the death of a Terrace infant four-and-a-half years ago.

Back on August 16th, 2002, 14-month-old Rowen Von Niederhausern was found unresponsive in his bed.

According to the Coroner's service, the little boy was taken to Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace, where he was pronounced dead.

An inquest into the youngster's death has been scheduled for the middle of June.  Presiding coroner Marj Paonessa and a five-person jury will publicly hear evidence from subpoenaed witnesses in order to determine the facts surrounding the death.

The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances in the future.

It really makes no sense to me WHY wait 4 1/2 years to have an inquest.

Nobody remembers how things happened. Have an inquest in the first 2 months would make a lot more sense.
Our system is definitely on overload. For the sake of the little boy, and possibly others like him, perhaps "better late than never" (assuming foul play or negligence was involved). I would like to hear more on this story Opinion 250. Thanks...
