The matter of Exploration Place seeking more funding, comes before the Regional District this week, it is just one of several groups that have been seeking increased funding.
In the case of Exploration Place it is $50, 000 dollars in addition to the grant that they received thus far of $ 575,000 dollars.
Now it raises the question (the same one I might add that applies to the Railway Museum, the Art Gallery and several other facilities that we operate in the city) just how many people are attending the facility?
It is costing the Regional District taxpayers about $2,000 dollars a day (including the $50,000 dollars) to keep the place open.
If the attendance numbers are high, and it isn’t costing the taxpayers more than couple of dollars for each person who attends, then there may be a case to be made.
On the other hand,if the numbers are low then we had better start looking around the place with a view to finding ways to cut those costs.
The local governments have been arguing that they have not received enough money from the federal and provincial coffers. Those two levels of government fully realize that at some point, you need to look at what you’re paying and what is giving you the best bang for your buck.
The three items I have mentioned account for a substantial contribution from the taxpayers every year and perhaps a new, fresh look at these expenditures is in order.
That, is one man's opinion.

There will NEVER be ENOUGH money to satisfy Exploration Place, the Museuem, The Art Gallery, the Library, or any city facility. The people responsible for the allocation of monies are just accustomed to asking for more money and being on the receiving end.
Pray tell, where are all these visitors supposed to arrive from????
And if one expects true figures I, for one, do not believe they will ever be available. Just like Offet said, "17000 visitors to the First Avenue Tourist Location" the first year, but I have NEVER seen anyone going to or coming from that location. Of course I am not travelling 1st Ave. when employees are on the move, so I assume they account for a goodly number of visitors. (joke).
I am so sick of lies, so called visions, and spinners. They Never have enough money, and just expect the taxpayers to keep dishing out of their pockets. When do we say "Enough???" And when do they ever receive "Enough???"
