CBC Lockout

Don't be surprised  if there are pickets up at the CBC building next door to Tim's on Victoria Street this morning.

The CBC locked out some 5500 employees right across the country at midnight last night.

You will have noticed the local morning radio program has been replaced with a single national broadcast.

On the T.V. side of things,  the news is to be scaled back, expect more movies, and  the network has plans to buy more programming.

The CBC says it will still broadcast CFL and NHL games, but possibly without colour commentary.

According to Arnold Amber, president of the CBC branch of the Canadian Media Guild, contract  negotiations ended just before 7:00 Pacific time last night.

Management and Union negotiators have been working towards a new contract since May of 2004.

Why are we not informed of the wage scale these people are now receiving, and just what they are looking for as an increase.
I would think the public is entitled to this information.
Give us the low and the high.
After all, how are they being paid-out of whose pocket???
Let 'em stay out forever - the CBC serves no useful purpose.
