Prince George’s bid to host the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games has  moved on to the next stage.

The bid, submitted just a little over a week ago, was good enough  to  make the B.C. shortlist, and P.G. is now competing with Kamloops as the only 2 B.C. communities vying for the games.

Manager of Sport for Events Prince Georgem Virginia Sprangers says she is thrilled and is confident Prince George has an "edge"  "Our bid concentrates on a northern-regional  perspective" says Sprangers, who will now work with people throughout the commuity to WOW the  Selection Committion when it makes a visit in early May. "There will be  four people coming to  take a closer look" says Sprangers "They could be here for up to a maximum of three days, and we will be  putting together  a tour that will showcase our volunteerism,  our facilities and cultural components as well as presenting opportunities for tourism throughout the  region."

Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley looks forward to welcoming the committee in May. "Once the committee sees first hand our excellent facilities, warm community spirit and genuine enthusiasm for hosting these Games, I’m confident they’ll find Prince George the ideal host for these Games," says Mayor Kinsley.

The Western Canada Summer Games are a multi-sport games held every four years, bringing together about 2,500 athletes, coaches, officials and performers from the four western provinces and three northern territories to celebrate achievement in sport and culture.

Kamloops has always had more political clout. Would be nice for PG to win once in a while.
Wonder how their Council endorsing the bid unanimously versus our Council's split decision will weigh?

Can't help I wouldn't think.
All we have to do is tell the selection committee that Kamloops City Councillors had a games strategic planning meeting in China prior to the vote and that we didn't; that is why some cast a protest vote.
