Opinion250’s Ben Meisner will be honoured in late June by the Canadian Radio and Television News Directors Association.  Meisner is one of a handful of electronic media journalists who will be  honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

In Meisner’s case, he is being recognized for his more than 50 years of involvement in electronic media as a reporter, anchor, commentator, news director, talk show host and his new venture in the world of the "new" electronic journalism.

Long time friend and colleague, Del Archer, nominated Meisner saying "He is immensely popular with listeners, viewers and readers for his fearless and prickly relationships with municipal councils, the B.C. government, owners and operators of paper mills, power projects and so on."

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Ben Meisner on June 21st at the BC Regional Awards Banquet during the RTNDA’s National Conference being held in Vancouver.

Good on you Ben! Always enjoyed the old talk show.
Congratulations. I think you do a great service to your community, and its good to see you'll be recognized for it.
Congratulations Ben!
Have always appreciated the way you can cut through all of the BS to get to the heart of the matter!
(still miss you on the radio!!!)
Congratulations Ben! You deserve recognition for your dauntless pursuit of truth and especially your tack and ability to present it. Cheers to you...
Who is Ben Meisner?

Is he the guy that owns Homesteader Meats?
Congratulations Ben. Never be daunted in your relentless pursuit of the truth. I hope the trophy comes adorned with a set of brass balls.
CONGRATS Ben !!!
lol @ "brass balls". ;) Way to go Ben, you know I love ya huge and that's the truth.
Congratulations Ben. Keep up the good work. We need a clear definition between fact and fiction.
Congratulations Mr. Meisner for holding the feet of quite a few parasites to the fire by getting down to the nitty-gritty!

May the set of cojones be made out of solid 24 carat gold!

You deserve the best!

Damn, is he that old?
Yep-and I do believe 70 is old-even though people claim it is not so.
If a guy does not get an award by 70, it is doubtful he will ever get one.
Need a good friend who can nominate you, and can be believably sincere when listing all the attributes pertaining to your character. It is a prerequisite all remarks are to be considered the heighth of flattering.
I, personally, am not a great admirer of this award winner.
I have always been of the opinion a man wrapped up in himself makes a very small package, and there is no one in this area
who could convince me Ben is ever humbled!
I kind of think the brainwave for this type of reporting belongs to Shane, (I think last name Redlick???) and he initially proposed this type of site. A very brilliant young fellow.
Not to be mean spirited-I do congratulate Ben Meisner, as he did not hesitate to move onto something new at the onset of "old" age. He must be weary at times when he views the fallacies exposed by the powers that be at Prince George city Hall, the politicians and bureaucrats.
Losing faith is not a sign of old age-it is the mark of realization that all does not bode well for the citizens of this country. Society has been on a "downhill" slide for a long period of time, and as one ages, one has a tendency to become disillusioned.
It must be difficult to report when downhill swings dominate over uphill swings. Must be depressing.
Anyhow, Ben, all the best, and I sincerely hope you have years left to enjoy an award you have spent a lifetime to achieve.
I am still a little miffed that you would not run for Mayor, and bring some common sense back into the operation of this city.
Like I have always maintained-I do not get mad-I get even!!
So I just did!
Just in case Ben is keeping a list, congratulations, Ben. I'm happy now.
Forgive me for not joining the group hug, but it's pretty tough to give ol' Ben credit for holding politicians accountable. Sure, he likes to tweak the nose of the little Napoleon on Patricia Ave., but it's pretty clear the Liberal MLAs are Ben's best friends. Count the number of photo ops that have appeared on this site with Pat, Shirley and John. Has there been any criticism of the nonsense like the 50-year highway twinning? Or the on-again, off-again Simon Fraser Bridge? Ben likes to slag Alcan, but has he acknowledged the complicity in the Alcan issue of the selfsame Liberals?

What about absentee Dick and bombastic Jay Hill? Any criticism of their total inability to get anything done for the north now that they're in government? No, no criticism, just a weekly column, printed without a hint of irony.

Frankly, it's pretty easy to hit at Colin Kin(g)sley, a lame duck if ever there was one. It takes real brass balls to take on the folks really in power in Ottawa and Victoria.

Congratulations Ben. Keep on glad-handing.
Pretty hypocritical to slam the site you look forward to posting your beefs on....
It is an "opinion" site- is it not whynotyou?
You are very impolitely suggesting those who say everything socially and politically correct should venture forward an opinion?
I do not believe Ben would be satisfied with such responses, nor would the other readers. The site would soon be left out of many persons itinerary, and in reality-forgotten!
It is not a "love in" with courteous sweet nothings the proper and expected responses.
Controversy and disagreements are a method many times in resolving an issue, or at least offering an alternative solution.
I do not consider myself a "know it all," so do like others opinions.
I have even been known to change my mind on a given subject!
And I just do not feel it a requirement to kiss up to anyone.
Sorry! I will remain a great admirer of "truth".
Congratultions Ben on receiving a lifetime achievement award from the Radio Television News Directors Association.
Its about time you were recognized for your persistant pursuit of the truth in reporting news and troublesome community issues. I believe the City of Prince George is long overdue in honoring citizens like yourself who have promoted the improvement of many things for its citizens both in larger issues and on a personal basis for many individuals struggles with the law, government agencies or whatever.
You certainly deserve this award and once again CONGRATULATIONS!
Thanks whynotyou. I agree with you. Yes everyone is entitled to an opinion but sometimes its better to use a little discretion??? How can one say he isn't a fan of the recipient and in the same paragraph wish him well? Quite rude to say the least. Sometimes maybe its better to keep ones opinions to themselves.
Way to go Ben!!!! I can't think of anyone more deserving. Congrats!!!
Oh My! Forgive me!
I did not realize I had to like anybody to post on this site. New rule-or was it existing prior to my post?
Due to the fact I am NOT a BUTT KISSER, I shall use my own discretion.
I certainly am capable of congratulating a person on an achievement without having to be terribly fond of them. The actual achievement has nothing to do with my opinion of the recipient of an award.
Get it together-and grow up-instead of just growing old.
HepCat, another "never been seen before" poster who registered specifically just to talk trash about one article. Hey genius, if you're going to get involved, then get involved. Let's see your opinions on more pressing matters, there are bigger stories on this site than an anecdote on Ben's award. There's more substance in trusted's sneeze than there is in your post. Get in or get out. This isn't a graffiti site, spray and run, so speak or forever hold your "piece".
