RCMP have released the name of the woman killed in a collision on highway 97 near Woodpecker yesterday morning.

17 year old Christina Rose Verde of Ft. St. James was the passenger in the PT Cruiser that collided head on with a tanker trailer near the Woodpecker rest stop around 9:30  yesterday morning.  She succumbed to injuries  sustained when she was ejected from the vehicle.  She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The  driver of the PT Cruiser,  34 year old Dawn Marie Agno,  also of Fort St, James, sustained minor injuries and was taken to PGRH where she  was kept overnight for observation.

The driver of the Kenworth,  54 year old Ronald J Bell  of Scarborough Ontario, was not hurt in the collision.

The highway has now been re-opened to  two way traffic through the area.  The road closure lasted longer than anticipated because a pumper truck had  to be brought in to transfer the contents of the tanker which was carrying sodium hydroxide. The tanker did not leak, and there was no environmental damage.
