P.G. Council to Hear More On Air Quality Issues

Air quality issues will be back before Prince George City Council this evening, as the Prince George Air Quality Implementation Committee will present phase two of the management plan. This plan is described as a bridge between the initial plan in bringing forward recommendations from the first phase and brings new recommendations to be implemented as the plan works through to stage 3.
Other items on the agenda for this evening’s session include a request to allow the sale of alcohol at the Spruce Kings play off games. The Spruce Kings haven’t had beer sales at their games at the Coliseum but beer was offered for sale when the Spruce Kings recently played at the CN Centre. City staff are asking Council to approve this “pilot project” for the duration of the play offs.
Also on the agenda, the re-introduction of some by-laws which had been pulled and changed because of concerns they violated the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act. Bylaws include the new zoning bylaw, business regulation and license bylaw, Vehicles for Hire bylaw, second hand dealers / pawn shop bylaw and the flood plain bylaw.
There will be some presentations to Council from the University of Northern B.C. as President Don Cozzetto outlines the strategic plans aimed at reducing the University’s predicted deficit. There will also be a presentation from the Canadian Association of Veterans in U.N. Peacekeeping- Prince George Branch.
Public hearings this evening include a request to re-zone part of a parcel at Nordic Drive and Highway 97 north to allow for the construction of a liquor store, a request to rezone some property on Johnson Street to allow for a higher density of housing, and a request to rezone a vacant lot on Range Road to allow for construction of a two family dwelling.
