Spring Forward!

This could be you tomorrow morning, as  we  change the clocks ahead one hour tonight,  three weeks ahead of the norm, as most of B.C. moves to  Daylight  Savings. The exceptions to the  time change in B.C. are Fort St. John, Charlie Lake, Taylor , Dawson Creek and Creston.

This is  the first time we will spring forward  three weeks earlier than usual.

The switch  was moved up to the second Sunday in March and extended to end on the  first Sunday in November as part of an American plan to save energy.  The thought being there is more daylight available in the early hours of the day, so  if we get up earlier,  we can put our day  "in sync" with  natural light,  preventing  the need to turn on the lights and in turn, reduce  our energy consumption.

This year, there is a  hitch, as  experts wonder if computers will  crash or  at the very least, provide a big headache because the operational programs  are older than the legislation  which brought about the  change, so it is likely your computer will need to be manually re-set, and all of your  appointments should be double checked  for accuracy.

The Province says it has been working  to ensure a "seamless transition" of all  government  electronic  applications for tonights time change, and for the flip back in November  this year.

MSN  is offering a  Daylight Savings time support program, but the  fix many  not apply to those with older systems.  C heck with your software manufacturer to see if there is an  update available.

We will  "Fall Back" on November 4th this year.

Here is the schedule for the next couple of years:

2008 Spring forward  March 9th, Fall Back  November 2

2009 Spring Forward March 8th, Fall back November 1

2010 - Spring Forward  March 14th, Fall Back November 7

I think if they were going to change the time thay should have givin all Canadians a chance for input.

I think places like Ft. St. John and Creston where they do not change their time are much smarter. Saskatchewan is another place that does not change their time.
I dont't think it should be changed at all, pick one way, it doesn't matter which way and leave it.

If we are utilizing all the light in the summer let's just leave the time there...there is no light in the winter to speak off and a lot of money can be saved from having to change all them clocks....
I am with Fancycamper. Choose one time and stick with it.

Believe it or not our bodies do not adjust to the constant changing.
I think we should do the same as China and have one time zone. I suggest something like Central Time in Winnipeg.

Thus we would be going to work at 10am rather than 8am and coming home at 6pm rather than 4pm.

That way, when you are participating in a national teleconference which starts at 9am, one does not have to figure out what time that is in Vancouver or Halifax.

Of course, Newfoundland would be half an hur ahead of all of us, as they have been for decades. Those islanders are just so eager to get going!!

What the U.S wants, U.S gets!
Just set the clock ahead one half hour and leave it like that, never touch it again!

This is called a compromise! Best way to go!
Hey, what time is it?
That post was made at 9:08 am
My computer switched automatically .... now to go around the house and change the rest of the clocks ....
Mine changed as well...as did the satelite receiver.. and my cell phone.
so much for all the doomsayers...
if things had come to a stop someone would not have been doing their job properly.... just like 2000 scare tactics...
Gofaster: I am one of those technical nerds working in the background to ensure that your clocks did change as they should. Rest assured the 2000 scare tactic wasn't and there was many systems that failed to work correctly, some with drastic results but the average person is so removed from them they don't hear about it. Same with this change in DST, you will never hear of the disasters that happened but there have been a few minor ones thats for sure.
I have no doubt that there may have been some glithes...
But I fail to see the crisis just because the clock says 5 AM insead of 6 AM...except maybe for being late for work.
If there are things that are that critical, then that would or should be a good enough arguement to leave the clocks alone.
And, now being serious, lunarguy I for one thank you and your associates for your dedication to our safety.
I agree. To heck with what "the u.s." wants us to do, it is an inconveniance to us, and does affect our bio rhythms (as if I even know what that is) Anyhow, I do not see a problem with time zones, just with so called daylight savings time, and even more so, now that we are changing according to the whims of a foreign power. What good does it do anyway, if you don't have total participation from every area of North America? One standard for all, please.
