B.C.'s Energy, Mines and Petroleum Minister Richard Neufeld says the government may have to take a closer look at the planned  1% increase in hydro rates.

The increase was  set up to establish a pot to promote development of green energy in B.C.

While it is expected residential customers will  see a hike of 1%, that level of increase may need to be re-worked for industry "If we want to keep business in BC we will need to look at the effects of this increase on major business that use large amounts of hydro electric power." says Neufeld.  The Minister  adds " We don’t want to lose this industry and we want to develop the fund. There are however some companies, especially in the mining industry, who might not be able to make it with that increase because it would place undo hardship on them."

According to Neufeld, the 1 % increase will mean that the average residential Hydro bill in the province will rise by about $10 dollars a year.

I fear that this is not the only increas that our government is going to saddle us with...

Alberta is looking like a good place to insure vehicles....
ooops did i say that out loud....
I hear ya! Just remember this at election time. That's the only thing that scares these political flunkies!
Any large corporation that is running such a fine line for profits that a 1% increase in the electricity portion of its operating costs is a poorly ran corporation ! Let them pay the 1% as they are doing their best to cause most of the damage to the environment any how. Minister Neufeld please do not seek an exemption for any one. This is all of ours problem.
I will just take my business to another hydro company. I'll show them who they are dealing with!!!
in my opinion Campbell is so cocky he could care less.... must ahve something on a number of voters he keeps getting in...along with his mimicing flunkies...
As for another hydro company...show it to me and I will be right there beside you....
OWL's HYDRO .....

Just send your flat rate $20/month cheque to PO Box 234 Prince George.

If you keep getting hydro bills, ignore them for now, it will take a few months for OWL's HYDRO to get everything straightened out with the BC Hydro offices.

In the meantime, leave your lights on 24/7/365 ... the great advantage of flat rates, the more you use it, the cheaper it becomes.

Would you take over Terasen Gas too?

Maybe then we could afford all these "hikes".

Municipal, Gas, Light.

They can't put a tax on fresh air

We don't have any

Oh I am sure just about anything these days can be taxed, or surcharged or just have rate increases, just because...got to keep the stock holders and government happy
We are getting lost in a myriad of Government Agencies, and Corporations, and they all have their own special way to get money out of the Taxpayers. These Corporations are set up by the Government in some cases specifically to download Government responsibility and to muddy the waters so that the every day **joe/jane** doesnt know what the *H* is going on.

Some examples;
BC Hydro, BCBC (Since changed to something else) BC Transmission Authority, Powerex, ICBC, WCB (Now Worksafe BC) BC Ferries Corp, BC Lotteries Corp, Various Airport Authoritys,BC Transit, Im sure there are a lot that I either forget about, or never knew about, however my point is that a lot of these so called Authoritys have the authority to increase your rates and only have to go through the BC Utilities Commision to get the OK.

In addition to the above we have four levels of Government Federal, Provincial, Regional, and Municipal. All of these levels of Government are out to get our tax dollars in anyway possible. Some of the above like ICBC, and BC Hydro, BC Lotteries, etc; channel money back to the Provincial Government. The Airport Authoritys channel money back to the Federal Government. All these Authoritys have a Board of Directors appointed by the various levels of Government mentioned and they all have staff that are very well paid.

How can any hard working, law abiding Citizen, trying to raise a family etc ever hope to keep abreast to what is going on with the above mentioned Circus. He cant, and the Governments know he cant, and therefore they basically have free rein.

The initial intent was to elect members to the various levels of Government to look after our interests. Is this being done? Most people are not even aware of how the Government is structured these days. I suggest that a lot of people elected, and also those working for the Government do not have a clue as to where we are, what we are doing, or who's in charge.

To change the situation would take a Herculean effort, and I suggest that the Voters and Taxpayers of this country do not have the wherewithal to take up the challenge.
