Hydro Rates to Climb

B.C.'s Energy, Mines and Petroleum Minister Richard Neufeld says the government may have to take a closer look at the planned 1% increase in hydro rates.
The increase was set up to establish a pot to promote development of green energy in B.C.
While it is expected residential customers will see a hike of 1%, that level of increase may need to be re-worked for industry "If we want to keep business in BC we will need to look at the effects of this increase on major business that use large amounts of hydro electric power." says Neufeld. The Minister adds " We don’t want to lose this industry and we want to develop the fund. There are however some companies, especially in the mining industry, who might not be able to make it with that increase because it would place undo hardship on them."
According to Neufeld, the 1 % increase will mean that the average residential Hydro bill in the province will rise by about $10 dollars a year.
