Special teams were the difference as the Salmon Arm Silverbacks doubled the Prince George Spruce Kings 6-3 in Salmon Arm to even the best-of-seven BCHL Interior Conference quarterfinal 2-2.  The ‘Backs were 4 for 13 on the power play, the Spruce Kings 1 for 8.

“Our power play has got to get clicking,” Kings assistant coach Stew Malgunas said.

Prince George fell behind 3-0 against Salmon Arm before Chris Shudo and Zach Davies scored second period goals to close the Kings within 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Former Prince George Cougar, Cody McMullin, restored the Silverbacks 2 goal lead with just under 11 minutes remaining in the third period. Scott Gudmanson stopped 40 shots for the Silverbacks. Jordan White made 24 saves for the Spruce Kings.

“You battle that hard and don’t get the results, it’s tough,” Malgunas said.

Game 5 is Sunday night in Salmon Arm before the series returns to Prince George for game 6 Tuesday night at the Coliseum.
