Election officers Judy Sommer and Loreen Suhr check names off the elegible voters list, while in the background, members of the Treaty Ratification Committee  keep watch.

The first day of voting on the Lheidli T’enneh Treaty is  underway.

Polls opened at 10 this morning at the Native Friendship Centre in Prince George, and will remain open until  8 tonight.

There are 203 eligible voters on the list.  Band members aged 16 and over are  eligible to case a ballot .

There are two questions being posed.  One asks if the  voter supports the Treaty, the other  asks if the voter supports the Lheidli T’enneh  Constitution as  presented at the end of January.

There are five days  set for voting on this treaty, including one  day of balloting in Smithers, and one in Vancouver.  The last two days of voting will take place at the Native Friendship Centre in Prince George.

The votes will be tallied  after the final ballot on March 30th.  The Band has set a 70% approval rate for acceptance of the Treaty.
