By 250 News
In the wake of the rejection of the Lheidli T'enneh Treaty Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley and Council have issued a statement reinforcing their commitment to build upon the "positive and productive relationship it enjoys with the Lheidli T’enneh."
"As Chief Frederick has continuously observed throughout the Treaty negotiation process, a decision concerning the proposed Treaty was the Lheidli T’enneh community’s to make," says Mayor Colin Kinsley. "While my Council colleagues and I are disappointed with the news that the Treaty ratification was not successful, we will continue to work cooperatively with the Chief and the Lheidli T’enneh people."
The Treaty included a Local Government Relations Chapter which established the methods by which the Lheidli T’enneh and City of Prince George would work together had the Treaty been approved.
The Treaty was rejected by 53 percent of those who voted. 273 Lheidli T'enneh were eligible to vote, 234 actually cast a ballot.
