Coming to the end of it's first year of operation, the 16-97 Alliance  continues to work to  think  Regionally, act locally, in efforts to  boost the economies of the  communities along  Highways 16 and 97 .

The Alliance has already  built  working relationships with  educational institutions,  the Beetle Action Coalitions and the Regional DIstrict of Fraser Fort George.

Participation in the Alliance  involves a financial contributionof  50 cents per capita.  So far, the  Regional District of Fraser Fort George, Quesnel, and Wells have  all committed to financial participation in the Alliance.

Participating communitiies will have a role to play in developing the organization's  plans,  "We want to make sure our communities are lived in and economically viable " says the Alliance's Kathy Scouten.

Mayor Kinsley says the Alliance's report on the inland container port was a valuable tool which validated  what  local government knew.  "When you are in the  middle of an area  that has resources such as  wood fiber, petro chemicals, minerals and who knows what else, and now this transportation link to the world, we are an ideal place in which to invest."

Funny how we are allocated a tax for these organizations that don't even present a summery of their successful activities, or any indication what their current strategy is looking like.

Nice name it should get them some tax dollars for travel and talk events. Looks like overlap on overlap to me.

I think $.50 cents could be better allocated to a public forum where views could be exchanged for everyone to participate as equals (ie on-line, newspaper, radio ect). The decisions on strategy could then be made by voters who elect those that run on popular strategies, and the elected then could carry out the tasks to impliment the strategy.

All these middle people lose everything in translation and it just turns into a job creation industry for talking heads that end up telling us what the best strategy will be. The only pupose of a group like this would be leadership and that is how it should be judged IMO.
I wonder which figures are used for the "per capita"?
Can we get receipts?
