We had a number of people inquire as to where the CBC fit into the latest radio listening audience survey as the total of the commercial stations only hits 69% of the  total audience.
The CBC has now supplied us with their figures showing a market share of 19.1 % this spring rating,  up from 18.6 last fall.
Who does the survey?
It is conducted by the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement.  (BBM Canada)
For a fee, radio and television stations can be included in the survey  which  provides them with detailed information about who is listening, or viewing  and when.  BBM first contacts people by phone  and asks  if they are willing to take part in the survey,  If the person agrees,  they are sent a "Diary".  Each member of the household is asked to record information about their age, sex  and which station they are listening to at any particular time in the day.  The "diaries" are then returned to BBM ,  processed and the results (industry  people call it "the Book")  are released to those who paid the fee to participate.
The BBM survey is an important factor for decision making on programming and advertising.

Where do the rest of the listeners go to get their radio?  We do know that satellite radio has a share of the market,  combine that with cable listening ( to out of market stations) and you hit a 100% audience.
Here is the information that we published earlier.

CJCI-" The Wolf"  may have slipped, but  it continues to lead the pack in the radio ratings.  The numbers  show that its loss was its sister station’s (94xfm) gain, giving the Wolf and  94xfm a combined punch of nearly 43% of the market.
The  market shares  in the category "all audiences 12 plus, Monday thru Sunday"  of  commercial  radio stations in Prince George are  as follows:
Station                                    Period                   Share      Gain/Loss
CJCI (The Wolf)                    Spring 2007           21.6%     -7.8%
                                                 Fall      2006           29.4 %
 -----
94xFM  (CIRX)                      Spring  2007          21.3%    +8.2%
                                                  Fall       2006         13.1%
-----
CKDV (CKPG, The Drive)    Spring   2007        14.7%     -0.6%
                                                  Fall        2006        15.3%
-----
CKKN (The River)                    Spring   2007        11.4%      +1.%
                                                  Fall        2006        10.4%
-----
The result shows the Wolf  in number one spot, followed by 94xfm,  "The Drive" is in third position and "The River"  remains in fourth spot.

Thanks for the update, and info.
I was one of those who had questions... and its great that you read them, and then dug up the answers.

Cheers
Which one is 99.3?

The wife listens to CBC Radio, she says the rest are just noise!

Our tests have found the best station for keeping moose off the golf course was CBC Radio. We tried the 94x types as I thought that programing would be the most annoying, but the moose just ignored the noise, the monotone nature of the noise didn't bother the moose one bit. To the moose it was probably similar to the rest of the industrial noise in the world.

But CBC Radio drives the moose away. That programing is just too annoying for the moose to adapt to. The variety of noise coming out of CBC is incredible! Good moose repellent anyway, thanks CBC. The difference when we switched to CBC was instantaneous! Try it!

Thank you for that Ben.

As a famous broadcaster used to say: "And now you know the rest of the story" :-)
Are we talking about **Glen** Moose here. Good way to keep him off the Golf Course, and in the office. Thanks CBC.

My Radio is either on CBC or off, its as simple as that.

I will galdy have the four legged variety on my property....just keep the loudmouthed 2 legged ones away.... should be easy to keep him away with CBC as well....after all its a radio station that has facts and real info in its programs...surely GMS would not want to listen to anything like that........
The truth is CBC does provide good programming . That being said if you want to hear music , just regular Pop ,Rock or Country you have to listen to the other guys . Its amazing everybody blasts country music , but The Wolf is the # 1 station . People complain about AM vs FM , if you honestly think that AM is better go to BCIT and take the Tech coarse that the broadcast students take . Its true that Fm doesn't travel as well , but the signal is clearer. I read on an earlier story that one person thought an AM staion would be # 1 , no chance! when CKPG and CJCI were AM against the two FM stations they were bottom feeders , now the wolf has been at the top almost since they flipped to FM. If you can't pick up the FM stations buy a new reciever
CBC IS very annoying at times, but overall, they are the only station I can listen to. The rest will not do. They are too loud, and have too little variety. The CBC at least has variety. That goes for radio one and radio two by the way.
metalman.
I have to say this is the first time I've ever heard of a country station being called to loud lol . I was surprised to hear Stuart MaClean play Arcade Fire a couple weeks back so I guess that proves the CBC does play different types of music .
