He was standing with one foot on the bottom rail, looking over the river , when a police vehicle proceeding south spotted him.  The  officers had to  go to the end of the bridge to turn around, but when they  got back to the spot,  the man  was gone.

Why would a cop have to go to the end of the bridge? They have those fancy lights, don't they? HMMM.
Is there a reward? Everytime some ninny cop makes a u-turn he causes an accident. They must have learned.
If a person wants to jump, LET him or her..WHAT...Now the police have to protect us from ourselfs.
Actually Don, yes they do....
What accident Harbinger?
And Kitkat they goe around probably to keep from having someone run into their rear end should they stop quickly or so they don't impede someones need to get to the store or work...
A very thankless job they have....
damned if they do or don't.
I for one am very thankful they are out there for the most part...yes even that one with the radar gun....he is there protecting you and me from myself...
HAve a great day all...i am now done with my 2 cents worth.
I agree, Gofaster. I wish the RCMP would make more u-turns and go after all speeders and the ever present mindless tailgaters at every opportunity.

Tailgaters provoke incidents of road rage.

Far too often the RCMP still seem to be ignoring blatant infractions that are occurring in lanes in the opposite direction!

Don, let us hope that someone who is more caring than you will lend you a hand should you ever find yourself in a seemingly hopeless situation!

Nobody is invincible, not even you!

That's my two cents worth.

They should check quesnel....the guy would be floating there by now.
Someone must have puntured Don Mackenzie. All his compassion leaked out.
I once had to drive ahead to find a safe spot to turn around last summer when I saw a woman not looking too good on her knees along the highway with her bike laying beside her. Was very hot out. By the time I turned around (was on hart hill inbetween mohawk and bridge) someone had come up the merge heading north and had stopped for her. Not many places to safely turn around there as so many people are in a hurry behind you trying to get into town. Hope the man ran off in other direction after seeing officer and not into river. In this article my opinion is the officer did the right thing. Got to see things for what they really are and not because some officers are hated. Every situation is different and we have to keep our minds, ears and eyes open to all facts.
WOW Don....your caring and compassion for fellow humans is heart warming.
I would respectfully have to disagree with
Don Mackenzie's post.

I believe that a society is judged by the way it treats its most vulnerable and needy.
So, be nice to Don ... he is the most vulnerable and needy on here .... he is crying out for help ....
Owl, you maybe correct.

I am amazed ( not in a good way) when people cannot have any understanding and compassion, for a fellow person.
Maybe if that person directly caused you problems sure...but just in general.

When I read the post by Don, that its all fine that maybe someone jumped to their death....well I re-read it in disbelief.
I am still stunned that he places so little value on a human life.

Maybe if it was his Dad, brother, child, or wife that jumped he would feel differently?
Or maybe not?

NO....I need no help...I am sick of the way we have to look after the People that could not care a thing about themselves you want to kill yourself by eating to much, drinking to much, or jumping off a bridge, I do not care..I do not believe it is anyone's business but yours, And we should not worry about the people that want to do it....I PLACE AS MUCH VALUE ON HUMAN LIFE.. AS THE PERSON...THAT IS LIVING IT...DOES...You want to do Drugs, Drink to much, Eat to much, Smoke, Jump off a Bridge, All the above WILL KILL you..I JUST DO NOT CARE...IF you want to do it ..DO IT...
After reading this, it is clear that Don has no redeaming social value and thus is best left unread. Please do not encourage him by replying to his posts. His writing only takes up space for those who have an understanding for how the world is today and not fifty years ago. Treat him like the bully he is and he will disapear just like the school yard bully.
YOU REALIST...Should Know the rules of Opinion 250....You are not to call down posters, make crude remarks to them....Grow up....I have different opinions then you and the other left wing people...but I am allowed my Opinions You and the others are allowed Yours... Even though they are WRONG and not thought out..
I think good ol' Don is filled with tragedy fatigue. I think I can relate to that too. There is donor fatigue with me with 70,000 plus registered charities plus unregistered ones too after my dough. I am especially amused when some addict/jerk dies or gets killed and all his pals say, "Poor so and so. He was just getting his life back together when this happened". Wait to read that in yer paper. Maybe two or three times a year. Sorry too. But I don't care either. As if I can do anything about it but "donate" my money. (after taxes too).
Money is just an example. My brothers keeper? Not if he takes advantage of my good nature. The name is Tucker. Not Sucker.
What's sad is not that he jumped (if in fact that's what happened) but rather that HE FELT HE HAD to jump. Unless we're that down in the dumps we'll never know completely how to understand that behavior ourselves but we can try to understand at least. I agree that Don should be able to state his opinions if not too harsh. Covers all the areas to think about.
I think if the cop was interested in doing anything more than watching, he would have stopped his car right there and got out.
Don's not alone in his opinion, he's just alone in having the guts to voice it.

My opinion ? I think it's far too hard for some people to get through another day, these days. We need to do more, but can't afford to do more, is our biggest problem.

Who has the answer ?

By the way, if you didn't get kind of a feeling of "dysfunctional society" when reading this story, then you weren't paying attention.
Yes, very true thereasonableman about officer stopping right there. Never thought of it that way at first. I keep forgetting a matter of seconds makes all the difference in someones life/world.
