Fort Nelson  has  had to  cancel  plans to host the 2007 Oil and Gas conference  in September.
The Fort Nelson arena collapsed last week.  The stability of the two other structures attached to the arena is not yet known.
Mayor Chirs Morey  says  the decision  is  disappointing, but there is  no other  option “We really have no choice without a facility in which to host such an event.”
A team of engineers will  meet in Fort Nelson this week to assess the  stability  of the  curling rink and community centre.
The arena collapsed  Easter Monday.  The building had been  sealed off  about a week before the collapse  after staff noticed the roof was showing  signs of stress.

September is a long time away. This is a loss of business and should be covered by any good insurance for such a facility.

There are temporary buildings available which are often used to extend convention space at larger venues. Those are as large as an ice hockey surface similar to an arena. I think given the remoteness of Fort Nelson, it might be a good idea to provide such a building over a longer period of time.
