Request For Rec Place Liquor Store Withdrawn
By 250 News
There first of two public hearings at Prince George City Council this evening dealing with rezoning to allow the operation of private liquor stores has been withdrawn.
The applicant, Anthem Recreation Place LP, had been looking to rezone a parcel of land at 2150 Ferry Avenue - the northwest corner of Ferry Avenue and Highway 16 West - to allow for the development of a liquor store. The applicant had applied to the Liquor Control and Licencing Branch to transfer an existing liquor licence from the Pumphouse Pub on Noranda Road to the new property.
The application narrowly made it to the public hearing stage, as Councillor Glen Scott had expressed concerns about the location being too close to schools. In the end, it moved forward by a 5-4 vote. No word on the applicant’s reasons for withdrawing the application at this time, but City Clerk Don Schaffer says the group has asked to re-schedule the hearing to a later date.
The second hearing is calling for a change in zoning at the Eastway Esso on Boeing Road. The applicant has a potential tenant who wants to vacate their current space at the Bonnet Hill pub, and transfer the liquor store sales license to the Eastway Esso site.
