Wacey Rabbit scored four goals, three on the power play, in leading the Vancouver Giants to a 6-2 victory over the Prince George Cougars at the Pacific Coliseum and a 2-0 lead in the Western Hockey League Western Conference Final. For the second night in a row breakdowns in the Cougars defensive zone proved costly. The Giants forecheck set up the opening goal as Milan Lucic found Rabbit who beat Real Cyr at 10:23 of the opening frame. Only 25 seconds later Mario Bliznak was left unchecked in front of the Prince George net to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead. The Giants power play, held scoreless in five game one opportunities, connected for a pair of goals off Rabbit’s stick. A tap in from a high rebound off the end boards and a wrist shot from the slot chased Real Cyr to the bench for Scott Bowles after the opening period with Vancouver cruising 4-1.  The Cougars scored the lone goal of the second period as Nick Drazenovic’s cross crease pass was converted by Chris Durand on the power play past Tyson Sexsmith. Rabbit’s fourth goal of the night and third on the power play beat Scott Bowles in the third period.
The Cougars power play connected for a second goal when Greg Gardner beat Sexsmith.
Bliznak’s second goal of the night, the fourth on the Giants power play, ended a game that was never in doubt after the opening 20 minutes.
The Prince George Cougars head home with the same scenario as in their series against Everett, trailing 2-0 in a best-of-seven affair. Games 3 and 4 are Tuesday and Wednesday night at CN Centre in Prince George.
