Bruce Sutherland  ( shown at left)  has been elected the new Board Chair for the College of New Caledonia. Ray Gerow and Peter Baird were elected vice-chairs. “Art Robin achieved great things as my predecessor; it is an honour for me to be elected, and I hope to be able to continue his legacy of strong leadership and community participation,” says Sutherland.

As the owner of Wolftek Industries, Bruce has been in business in this community for over 20 years. He adds, “It’s an exciting time to be involved with CNC. With so many creative initiatives and the wealth of student opportunities across a spectrum of programs, the college is clearly meeting the demands of students and employers in our community and across the region.”

Art Robin served two terms as board chair and leaves the college with enrollments increasing, significant trades training growth, a new medical lab tech program and a balanced budget.

I'm glad it was someone local chosen for the job, but if Bruce Sutherland's record at the Chamber of Commerce is any indication, than I would say that is a cause for concern.

ie His position on BC Rail, and exporting local expertise to Russia.
Further proof the arts programs lead to mental midget crazies like the Virginia Teck massacare.

Cho’s Professor Nikki Giovanni: Teaching Hate At Virginia Tech

The chair of the CNC Board has always been someone "local" in that the members come from the College region.
As to Giovannis writings from when she was in her rebellious 20's in the USA at the time of the civil rights movement, the Black Panthers, Jesse Jackson, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, etc. at the same time of the writings of white supremacists, I would not wish to take issue with them. They were reactionary, appropriate for the times to turn things around and look at the events which whites perpetrated on blacks asn see how they would look in the other way ..... after all, there were enough "whites killin' ni**as" which is exactly the point she was trying to make from my point of view.

Did she kill? Not that I am aware of.

Did she strap a bomb to herself and take 10 others out? Not that I am aware of.

Did she write anything different than whites such as Allan Ginsberg and other did in the same time period? Not that I am aware of.

How very true are these words of hers ….. "A white face goes with a white mind. Occasionally a black face goes with a white mind. Very seldom a white face will have a black mind."

Of course, people like Peter Brimelow, the famous paleoconservative who is nothing more than a well cloaked white supremacist and creator VDARE.com appears to be too stupid to understand what she wrote in those words.

Cho’s act did not seem to be one of a racist. It was indiscriminate from what I can tell. From the writing s so far there was no readily visible pattern, although I am sure in the next few years there will be many psychologists, sociologists, criminologists and pretenders to such titles who will put their theories forward, many of which will be competing with each others. I doubt that the early rebellious writings of a woman, who will be 65 in two months, is going to be significant in any of those findings other than those which are brought forward by those with racists glasses on.

If it were up to Peter Brimelow and VDARE, Cho, as a Korean, would never have been let into the USA. He probably believes that Giovannis should be returned to Africa no matter what she writes.

Just to confirm what I stated in the last paragraph of the above.

What a bit of "after posting" research into a statement I made will do with the help of the internet.

Peter is predictable.
I'm not sure who this Peter guy is, or what his web agenda is? I’ll take your word on that one. Never even bothered to find out. I just found the peer work of his instructor that was allegedly studied by Cho, and later confirmed, was kind of instructive of the shaping of a psycho’s madman perspective.

My point was you have a teacher of so called literature whos’ most famous work is racism inspired hatred of white people. This person is promoted by the school and paid a good wage to be a person for students to emulate. Literature is often of cover for pushing extremes. This Chow guy picked up on her themes in his own writings beyond no doubt, and no doubt picked up on her racisms as displayed in hers and his writings.

I find it odd that racism can only be from white to brown, or white to black, or some other combination that does not include racism against whites. That is where literature and the teaching of political correctness runs amuck. The whole study involves shaping politically correct perspectives, the problem being the variable of who is picking the material and instructing the classes and their judgements.

In the case of Virginia Teck they got all caught up on the role of awarding employment to a person that made themselves famous with a poem which instructs to kill white men no less than 15 times, with a decapitation suggestion thrown in for good measure, and finishing with two lines calling for martyrdom in the name of killing. Pure hate literature, and she is the one doing the grading, and leading by example? That’s just crazy in itself and the university could be liable IMO.

I can't see how the obvious gets turned into a debate about some guy and his web site. Surely e-bay, or google can come up with plenty of other sources where a person can form their own thoughts on the matter?

IMO
"My point was you have a teacher of so called literature whos’ most famous work is racism inspired hatred of white people."

My point is that what you call her "most famous work" is what this "peter guy's" site unearthed and it goes bakc to her youth.........

I was trying to introduce historic perspective and the philosophy ofthe individual who is bringing a slice in time, without context, into the picture ....

I you are unable to understand that, so be it.
"This Chow guy picked up on her themes in his own writings beyond no doubt, and no doubt picked up on her racisms as displayed in hers and his writings."

And your evidence is? Do you know whether she brought that poetry to her class? Do YOU even understand what it means, let alone Cho?

If you do, tell me how you know that?
This is her Biography ....

This is the picture of violent mad woman ...

you have met the enemy ... and he is you ...
These are her recognitions from her academic peers ...

Maybe you and Bush can put her on the "people most needed to watch list" so that she does not get on a plane for the rest of her life in case she will counsel fellow passengers to overtake the pilot.
So one guy who is screwed up in his brain ahppened to be in her class, and some other guy who is a practicing racists thought he would get at two non-whites with one stone and put 2 and 2 together and got 3 .... and you bit.....

"Ms. Giovanni’s early poems are a point of reference for rage at a youthful age. The implied lesson here is that an honored poet can also produce very angry text at a young age.

Readers when reading these poems should be very careful not to jump to conclusions about the relationship between angry text and actions. There are angry textual rages published everywhere in America, each and every day. Our task as humans is to examine rage with as much humanity as we can possibly bring to it."

Chadermando .... it seems that you have never taken english literature courses in which writing which are dissected are frequently controversial and have to be read in the context of the author's time in his her life and maturity and the context of the age and environment they live in.

If you have, then you may not have gotten the message.
BTW ... I find these topics to be of great interest, but expect this site not to be meant for such discussions .....

rather we need to concern ourselves a bit more with the cut of Burce's beard and whether he should get his hair coloured a bit ......

;-)
Who is Art Robin? What great things did he achieve? Was he there during the great kill off of non-university transfer programs?
"enrollments increasing" ....

I hear rumours that UNBC, and possibly other Universities, may be cutting back some of the virtually automatic transferabilities of courses from one institute to another.

Makes some sense since Universities are seeing or will be seeing a flattening out of student populations and thay are not in a postion to offer non-degree undergraduate diplomas and certificates in applied subject areas.

The two year UT transfer programs were set up to accommodate students in remote parts of the province (which means outside the lower mainland and south island). Now that ther are universities in every community the size of PG, such programs are virtual duplication with a few exceptions, and the colleges really should get on with recovering the programs they once had and building on those. Vancouver has BCIT, we have virtually nothing of the kind anymore.
