One of every 8 Canadians has a disability.

That, says the Social Planning and Research Council of BC (SPARC) is why Communities must work to be more inclusive.

In spreading the word about Access Awareness day, SPARC appeared before Prince George City Council this week to talk about continued work to make communities more inclusive.

An accessible community has the following components says SPARC:

·         Housing and support

·         Education and employment

·         Moving around

·         Civic involvement

·         Recreation and the arts

SPARC asks that all communities think about the barriers to mobility, sight, hearing, and in the invisible barriers for those with learning disabilities, or mental health issues.

Access Awareness Day this year is June 2nd.
