CN Centre was a blur of whirling green glow lights, as enthusiastic fans welcomed the five teams to the Royal Bank Cup.

The dignitaries said their  welcomes,  and  the fans waved their glow lights to  cheer on the five teams who  are taking part in the Royal Bank Cup.

As each team hit the ice,  there was a blast of flames.  Pipers  paid tribute to  Canadian Troops overseas, and  all bowed their heads for a moment of silence for those who have fallen.  Then, special news from Hockey Canada.  Members of the Canadian Armed Forces who come home with  an  injury will be part  of Hockey Canada's new "Soldier On" program, as  Hockey Canada will work with them to  show them the opportunities and  abilities they still possess.

The announcement was followed by more flames, as acrobats  spun firey batons.

The evening wrapped up with  a fireworks display.  Saturday, the Prince George Spruce Kings  and the Pembroke Lumber Kings  tangle in the first game at 7:00 p.m.

Single tickets are available.

Less than 2,000 fans. Is that a good turn out? Seems a little lite.
And some say we are a hockey town....
Was that 2000 the town???
or just those who say we are?
I wish the Royal Bank a lot of luck...and I am thankful I am not one of their customers, who, I suspect, will have to sholder the shortfall.
I was one of the close to 2000 who turned our for the opening ceremonies - and just want to say to some of you bloggers - it is time to get off the computers and get out and do some thing positive to support our community! It was a great event - and a great crowd to show up to greet the competitors!!

Enough of your negativity!
FYI Gofaster...the RBC Cup is already beyond record ticket sales for the event and is also projecting a large surplus (which will go back into minor hockey legacies).

I'm sure you'll find some way to negatively spin those facts but I for one am proud of the job PG has done. I can't wait to show the nation what we have here and that PG is a proud hockey town.

Way to go RBC Organizing Committee and volunteers!!
If I only could of been there.
My work supports the games but would not give me the night off to go to the opening.
They are also not letting me go to the weekday games even after I bought $160.00 package. If you CAN attend--PLEASE go.
