We Could Be in For a Major Flood:One Man's Opinion

I don’t want to be the person who delivers doom and gloom, but if you have been following the snow pack levels in this region, as Opinion250 has been for weeks, you will begin to understand there is a problem on the horizon.

You didn’t need to be a professional to see that the Kenny Dam was filling up quick, Alcan was going to have to dump some serious water and the Fraser basin was overflowing with snow.

It may have taken the local media some time to finally coming around to grasp the seriousness of the issue, but it is now before us.

Given the recent rain, given the fact that the snow pack has actually gone up and when you cast your eye over towards Taber Mountain you see lots of snow, given the fact that all of those dead pine don’t need water to keep them alive, and the ingredients are there for a very serious flood.

In the low lying towns and villages along the Fraser and Nechako the snow is gone and the grass is greening up, but don’t be fooled in to believing the threat is over.

There is a major flow of water to come down from them thar hills, and when it starts, it could create some major problems like we haven’t seen for 50 years.

We don’t want a hot spell, we don’t need (as one resident recently remarked) a nice warm rain to green up the grass because if both of those events take place at the same time we will need to get out or hip waders because it is going to get wet , very wet in the province.

I’m Meisner and that is one man’s opinion.
