Regional District Staff continue to monitor river and stream levels

The rainstorm earlier this week raised concerns that rivers and streams throughout the region may overflow, but, so far, so good.

Fraser-Fort George Regional District Spokesperson, Finlay Sinclair, says "We're in constant contact with the provincial agencies responsible for monitoring the rivers - we have up-to-the-hour contact if something changes - and, to this point in time, we have nothing unusual or consequential that we need to manage."

The District's Manager of Projects and Communications goes on to say, "We're just trying to make sure that we've prepared ourselves as best we can and make sure we have the resources ready to deploy, if necessary."

Sinclair says Regional District staff was out quite a bit yesterday and the day before because rural residents were phoning in with concerns, but that has slowed somewhat today.  But he says, "We do want to know when anything changes with river levels or tributaries and we want to know that information as soon as possible."

The main switchboard number at the Regional District office is 960-4400.  After-hours, calls should be directed to the local Provincial Emergency Program office at 612-4172.
