Cup Committee Says Thanks
By 250 News
It is over, but co-chair of the Royal Bank Cup , Don Kehler, was heaping praise on all who were involved. Kehler addressed Prince George City Council, offering thanks to the City for its support, to Tom Madden of Leisure Services for hisleadership and "common sense approach" to Glen Mikkelsen at CN Centre and his staff for all their hard wrk.
Kehler went on to offer thanks to the 600 volunteers who helped make it all happen and to the entire Spruce Kings organization. "They knew they had a challenge" said Kehler, "and they worked so hard in that semi-final" he was among those who stayed for the full five overtimes which set a new record.
Kehler's voice had an audible tremor when he talked about the Spruce Kings in the final, a game that came too soon after the record breaking overtime semi final. The Kings didn't come away with the Royal Bank Cup, but Kehler says they proved they are all winners "Every one of those players should hold their head high. They really did our community proud."
In an effort to show their thanks, Council gave Kehler and his committee a round of "fan- shaped- noise- maker slap- happy- applause", whacking the noise makers that were so popular during the tournament.

I would not be surprised if there was a television movie of this Royal Bank Cup and the Spruce Kings.
