Two men appeared in Provincial court in Ft St. James today charged with possession of a controlled substance, trafficking in a controlled substance and production of a controlled substance  in connection with the seizure of 170 clone seedlings recovered from an SUV taken from the Nechako River on Sunday evening.

The drug bust resulted from a routine traffic stop in Vanderhoof.

Two vehicles were pulled over, one  a late model Mercedes the other a rented Ford SUV, about 3:25 Saturday morning.

The Ford fled the scene and headed down a road leading to the Vanderhoof float plane dock. The vehicle ended up in the river and the two occupants escaped. One of the two was picked up by police along side the river a few hundred yards down stream.  The second youth, 18 year old Daljit Sandhu, is missing in the Nechako River. His family continues to look for him. Reports say that Sandhu was last seen clinging to some branches downstream of where the SUV entered the river.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 22 year old from the lower mainland is charged along with the 18 year old who is listed as a passenger in the rented vehicle, the 18 year old  is also  facing a charge of obstruction of justice. Police say the vehicle had been rented in Richmond by the 22 year old .

Police could not comment on whether a large quantity of cash was also recovered from the driver of the Mercedes.

Pretty sad when a young man gets himself killed over a couple of measly plant clippings or seedling sprouts. Although he might of made a thousand dollars for his troubles and got the promise of his own shiny gun for his part. In the end its kind of a rough way to return home if at all, better just to take your lumps when your caught for something that minor as an obvious patsy. If he was smart he got out in time and its been warm out so he would have a chance on foot. 22 year old will have a nice restitution fine I'm sure comming out of this.
why are you people only saying daljit sandhu's name? why not the other two guys who got the charges. Daljit does not deserve this he is such a sweet and nice guy why are you doing this to him. you should put the other guys names too also their the ones who got the charges.
I really hope that area can be made safer. Maybe have a gate idea that is closed at night only with reflectors on it or something I don't know. Sorry for your pain Manpreet.
If he was seen clinging to branches, then there is a chance that he may have pulled himself out further downstream and escaped.
He had at least made it out of the car, that increases his survival chances a lot.
Hopefully, he survived.

I agree with Chadman, it would be a shame to see such a young life lost for the sake of a minor punishment.

However, with the fact that the police are going to be interested in talking to him, I doubt we will find out what became of him unless the police find him, one way or the other.

It would be kind of silly to expect the family to call in and say "we just found him and he's OK".

Actually, I expect that the advice of a lawyer would be to do just that, otherwise additional charges would be laid against him.

However, as parent, if I knew what has been happening recently in Houston and Vanderhoof with two questionable shooting, I would be rather concerned about my son's destiny in the hands of police. The risks might appear to be too high to some, so they will keep it silent.
Well I think if he is out there with family right now (which I really do hope)surrender him after contacting the media first. Safety net for the parents if that's what their concern is.
Is this Mexico or Iran? I seriously doubt that this young mans safety would be at stake if he turned himself in to the police. The other two incidents, tragic as well, are vastly different from this one.
ummm i think you people are crazy, his family is out in Vanderhoof serachign for him, they don't know where he is.

Were praying to find him.
....of course we are crazy!!! We are all inbred and sit around all day picking banjo's and gitars!
